Crown Royal XR Extra Rare is a blended Canadian whisky finished in part with liquid from one of the final batches ever laid down at the now-shuttered LaSalle distillery, so what's in the bottle can't be replicated once that stock runs out. Bottled at 80 proof, it noses rich with dried fruit and honey, moves into a lightly sweet palate carried by Canadian rye spice, and finishes long on raisin, brown sugar, and black pepper. It's built for slow sipping rather than mixing, with the depth of an older whisky but none of the burn of a high-proof pour.
