Bull Run's Bourbon Enthusiast selection is a 14 year old American whiskey from the Portland, Oregon distillery, finished in a Cabernet cask and released as a single barrel pick for the group that chose it. Fourteen years is a long stretch for any American whiskey, and the wine wood pushes the oak in a darker, fruitier direction rather than sanding it down. The nose leans into black cherry, cocoa and old leather; the palate carries dried fig, brown sugar and a stripe of tannin from the cask; the finish is dry, woody and long. Pour it neat in a glencairn, or over one big cube if the oak runs hot.
