Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Kentucky Straight Rye is the rye half of a project built on knowing exactly where the grain came from, tracked from a known crop all the way through to the bottle rather than blended from whatever the market supplied. That is unusual transparency for a distillery of this size, and it makes for an interesting side-by-side with the bourbon release. In the glass it is classic Kentucky rye: spice, dill and dark caramel on the nose, black pepper and clove over toasted grain on the palate, and a long dry finish. Drink it neat, or let it drive a Sazerac or a Manhattan.
