Oban Port Cask Finish, aged 15 years, is a Highland single malt from Oban distillery, a tiny operation with just two stills wedged into the seafront town that grew up around it on Scotland's west coast. Fifteen years in oak followed by a spell in port casks pushes the house style, which sits between the orchard fruit of the Highlands and the salt of the islands, toward something darker and more dried-fruited. The nose is fig, orange peel and sea air; the palate is stewed red fruit, honey, malt and a faint smoky-saline edge; the finish is long and gently sweet. Neat, with a splash of water.
