Smoke Wagon Red White and Blue is a limited straight bourbon release from Nevada H&C Distilling in Las Vegas, the outfit behind the Smoke Wagon line. Smoke Wagon built its name on carefully selected Indiana-distilled bourbon blended in small batches, and the special releases are where the more interesting barrel picks tend to end up rather than getting folded into the core range. The nose is caramel, vanilla and rye spice; the palate is rich and faintly oily, with brown sugar, cherry, toasted oak and a peppery lift through the middle; the finish is long, dry and spicy. Pour it neat first, then build an old fashioned with the rest.
