This is a Family Reserve single barrel from Wilderness Trail in Danville, Kentucky, bottled at cask strength from barrel 762174 under the CYPRE pick. Wilderness Trail is one of the few Kentucky distilleries running a sweet mash process, starting each fermentation fresh instead of carrying a backset over from the last one, and the house style that comes out of it is clean and unusually fruit-forward. Look for baked apple and vanilla on the nose, then caramel, brown sugar and a warm cinnamon edge from the higher proof, closing dry on oak and toasted grain. Add a few drops of water and drink it neat.
