Rittenhouse is Heaven Hill's bonded rye, and this commemorative edition takes it to ten years while keeping the bottled-in-bond standard intact: one distillery, one distilling season, at least four years under federal supervision and exactly 100 proof. A decade in new charred oak deepens what is already a sturdy Kentucky-style rye without tipping it into tannin. The nose is baking spice, dark caramel and dried cherry; the palate is thick, with brown sugar, cinnamon, cocoa and mint; the finish is long, dry and peppery. Neat is the honest read, but it also builds the best Manhattan on most back bars. Do not waste it on soda.
