About this bottle
Casa Magdalena Ron Blanco is a Guatemalan white rum made in partnership between Portland's House Spirits Distillery and Ingenio Magdalena, one of Central America's largest sugar producers. The rum is column-distilled from molasses at the Magdalena Distillery in Guatemala, then shipped to Oregon and rested roughly six months in used American whiskey barrels before a light filtration strips most of the color back out. That barrel rest rounds the edges without turning it gold - expect a soft, slightly rounded profile with light vanilla and baking-spice notes under the classic clean sugarcane character. Bottled at 41.5% ABV in a 750ml bottle, it's built as a mixing rum for people who still want a bit of depth.
How to drink Casa Magdalena Ron Blanco
Lead with a daiquiri or mojito - this is a mixing rum first, and its short whiskey-barrel rest gives cocktails a little more backbone than a typical silver rum. A simple rum and soda with lime also shows off the vanilla notes without hiding them.
