About this bottle
Char level four is the heaviest standard burn a bourbon barrel gets, and Blanton's Special Release Char No. 4 is a single barrel bourbon built to show what that extra fire does. Deeper char pulls more from the oak — vanilla and caramel sweetness up front, a smoky, earthy edge behind it — as the whiskey works through Kentucky summers in Warehouse H, the metal-clad warehouse the brand has always pulled from. Bottled at barrel proof, each barrel in the release lands at its own strength, so the number on your label belongs to that barrel alone. The 2022 run totaled four barrels and 832 bottles worldwide. Open it for a vertical alongside the standard bottling, neat, and let the char do the talking.
How to drink Blanton's Char No. 4
Taste it neat first, in a proper glass, before adding anything — barrel proof whiskey this rare deserves to be judged undiluted. A few drops of water afterward can help open the char and vanilla further if the proof runs hot.

Questions about this bottle
How should I drink Blanton's Special Release?
Sip it neat or on the rocks in a rocks glass — a single barrel bourbon like this is meant to be tasted slowly, showing off the character of that individual barrel.
What does 'Char No. 4' mean?
It refers to the level of char on the inside of the barrel used to age this bourbon — Char No. 4, sometimes called 'alligator char,' is the heaviest standard char level, which deepens caramelization and smoky char notes in the whiskey.
What's notable about Blanton's as a brand?
Blanton's, created by Elmer T. Lee at Buffalo Trace in 1984, is widely credited as the first modern single barrel bourbon sold commercially.
