Cakebread Cellars Benchland Select is the family's Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon drawn from bench land — the gently sloped ground at the base of the valley's hills, where the soils drain hard and the vines struggle in the way Cabernet rewards. The 2021 is dark and structured without being heavy-handed. Expect blackcurrant, cedar and dried herbs on the nose, a palate of black cherry, cocoa and graphite framed by firm but polished tannin, and a long finish with sweet oak on the tail. Decant it an hour before dinner and serve it with a ribeye, braised short ribs or an aged hard cheese.
