About this bottle

Hazelburn Oloroso is a 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky produced at Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, where it's made unpeated and triple-distilled, a different style from Springbank's own smokier release. This expression spends its full twelve years in Oloroso sherry casks, which push it toward a deep amber color and a nose of dried fruit and toasted nuts. On the palate expect raisin, walnut, and baking spice, with a long, slightly drying finish that keeps the sherry from turning cloying. Bottled at 49.9% ABV, it's a fuller-bodied dram than most triple-distilled whiskies, and a solid pick for a sherry-cask drinker who wants something a step off the well-trodden Springbank path.

How to drink Hazelburn Oloroso

Pour it neat in a tulip glass and give it a few minutes to open, the sherry needs air more than it needs water. A few drops of water can tame the nuttier edges if the dried-fruit sweetness feels too rich on its own.

Questions about this bottle

How should I drink Hazelburn Oloroso?

Neat, in a tulip glass, with a few minutes to open; a few drops of water can soften the nuttier edges if you want.

What makes Hazelburn different from Springbank's other whiskies?

Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled, while the distillery's Springbank release is peated and partially triple-distilled, and Longrow is heavily peated and twice-distilled; all three come from the same site in Campbeltown.

How long is this aged and in what casks?

Twelve years, entirely in Oloroso sherry casks, which give it its deep amber color and dried-fruit character.
