Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 9 is a single malt Scotch whisky from Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, bottled at cask strength from a vatting that's roughly 90% bourbon cask and 10% sherry cask. Kilkerran's standard range is only lightly peated, so this batch is a deliberate departure, built to around 45 parts per million phenols. At 59.2% ABV it hits hard, campfire smoke and brine up front, then dried fruit and toffee from the sherry casks underneath, with a long, smoky, slightly maritime finish. Cut it with water if you want the fruit to come forward. This is a whisky for a peat lover who already likes Springbank's house style and wants a smokier cousin from the same town.
