About this bottle
Fortaleza Añejo spends eighteen months in American oak, long enough to take on real color and structure without losing the cooked-agave core that defines every release from Destilería La Fortaleza. The process starts the same way it has for five generations of the Sauza family: agave roasted in stone ovens, crushed under a volcanic tahona wheel, fermented in open wood vats, and run twice through small copper pot stills. What the barrel adds is caramel, vanilla, and baking spice; what stays underneath is roasted agave and black pepper. Nothing else goes into the bottle — no coloring, no oak extract, no sweetener. A sipping tequila built for a snifter, not a shaker.
How to drink Fortaleza Añejo
Pour it neat in a snifter, the same glass you'd reach for with an aged whiskey — eighteen months of oak gives it the weight to carry that treatment. If you do mix, keep it to a spirit-forward stir like an Añejo Old Fashioned so the caramel and spice stay in front.

Questions about this bottle
How should I drink Fortaleza Añejo?
Neat, in a snifter — eighteen months in American oak give it enough body and caramel depth to stand on its own, the way you'd treat an aged whiskey.
What cocktails work well with Fortaleza Añejo?
A tequila Old Fashioned lets the barrel's caramel and baking-spice notes lead instead of getting buried under mixers.
What makes Fortaleza's production different from most tequila?
Agave is cooked in stone ovens and crushed with a volcanic tahona wheel rather than a roller mill, then fermented in open wood tanks and double-distilled in small copper pot stills — a slower, more traditional process most large producers dropped decades ago.
