About this bottle

Jameson Black Barrel is a blend of pot still and grain Irish whiskey matured in double-charred bourbon barrels, the extra char giving the name and adding deeper caramelization than Jameson's standard blend. A portion of Oloroso sherry cask whiskey is blended in as well, layering dried fruit sweetness over the char-driven vanilla and toffee. Bottled at 80 proof, it's a richer, more full-bodied step up from the original Jameson without moving into pot-still territory. Expect toasted wood, vanilla, and dried fruit on the palate, with a smooth, warming finish. It's built for drinkers who like standard Jameson but want more depth for the same easy price point.

How to drink Jameson Black Barrel

It's built for an Irish whiskey and ginger ale, but the double-char sweetness also holds up neat or over ice. Try it in a whiskey sour if you want the vanilla to come through.

Questions about this bottle

What's the best way to serve Black Barrel?

Serve it neat in a tulip glass or on the rocks; its lighter, smoother profile also holds up well with a splash of ginger ale.

What cocktails work well with Black Barrel?

It suits an Irish Coffee or a simple whiskey ginger, built long over ice with ginger ale.

What makes Black Barrel different from standard Jameson?

It's aged in double-charred bourbon barrels rather than once-used casks, with a portion finished in Oloroso sherry casks for more caramel and dried-fruit depth.

Who founded Jameson?

John Jameson, who founded the brand in Dublin in 1780; it's now triple-distilled at the Midleton Distillery.
