About this bottle
Distilled in 1988 and bottled after three decades in refill bourbon casks and hogsheads, Bruichladdich Rare Cask Series 1988 / 30 Year is an unpeated Islay single malt scotch from the distillery's pre-closure era. Nicknamed 'The Untouchable,' it predates the 1994 to 2001 shutdown, making the liquid a rare survivor of the old regime. At 46.2% ABV the profile is soft and tropical rather than smoky: dried hay, coconut, and vanilla give way to pink grapefruit, malt, and ripe pineapple that lingers into the finish. Only a limited allocation was released. This is a collector's bottle and a milestone dram — save it for a quiet night with people who will appreciate what thirty years in oak can do.
How to drink Bruichladdich Rare Cask 1988
Pour it neat in a tulip glass and give it real time — the tropical fruit takes a few minutes to show up fully. A drop of water can help if the oak feels dominant at first, but go easy; thirty years of cask influence is easy to wash out.

Questions about this bottle
How should I serve this?
Neat, in a tulip glass, at room temperature — give it a few minutes to open.
Why is this called 'The Untouchable'?
It predates Bruichladdich's 1994–2001 closure, making it a surviving example of the distillery's pre-closure spirit.
Is this a peated whisky?
No — Bruichladdich's core range, including this bottling, is unpeated, unusual for an Islay malt.
