Cairdeas Lore is a Feis Ile bottling from Laphroaig, released at cask strength for the annual Islay festival. Lore has always been the distillery name for its richer, darker side, drawn from a mix of cask types rather than one, and undiluted it lands with real weight. Wood smoke, kelp and dark chocolate come first on the nose; the palate is rich and smoky with espresso, dried fruit and the iodine note that marks this distillery out; the finish is long, ashy and warming. Pour it neat in a tulip glass and add water only once you have taken the first measure of it.
