About this bottle
Nikka's Yoichi single malt comes from the company's original distillery on Hokkaido, the northern island founder Masataka Taketsuru chose because its cool, coastal, peat-rich landscape reminded him of Scotland, where he trained. Yoichi is one of the few distilleries anywhere still using direct coal-fired pot stills, which the team credits for a heavier, more robust spirit than most Japanese whisky. Expect real peat smoke and a briny, maritime edge alongside dried fruit and sherry-cask richness — closer in style to an Islay malt than to the lighter, more floral whiskies people often associate with Japan. Not for beginners looking for something soft.
How to drink Nikka Yoichi Single Malt
Drink it neat or with a few drops of water to open the smoke and dried fruit — the peat character deserves the same treatment as a good Islay Scotch. A large ice cube works if you prefer it slightly cooler and softer.
