About this bottle
Miyagikyo is Nikka's second distillery, built in 1969 near Sendai specifically to produce a lighter, fruitier style of malt whisky to complement the heavier, more robust spirit from the original Yoichi distillery on Hokkaido — the two are deliberately opposite in character so Nikka's blenders have both styles to work with. Matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, it comes through soft, fruity, and floral, closer to what most people expect from Japanese whisky's reputation for elegance than Yoichi's smokier, more maritime style. A good introduction to Nikka for drinkers who found Yoichi too intense.
How to drink Nikka Miyagikyo
Build it as a Highball with soda water — the light, fruity profile is genuinely well-suited to the classic Japanese serve. Neat with a drop of water works too if you'd rather taste it straight.
