About this bottle
Bruichladdich Black Art 1994 is an unpeated Islay single malt Scotch whose cask recipe the distillery refuses to publish. The spirit ran off the stills in 1994 and spent 25 years in a combination of casks known only to head distiller Adam Hannett, who capped this edition — 07.1 — at 12,000 bottles worldwide. It pours deep amber and drinks that way too: stewed orchard fruit, apricot, and honey folded into wine-dark oak and soft baking spice, bottled at 48.4% ABV with no chill filtration and no added color. The mystery is half the point; the 25-year age statement is the other half. Open it on a slow evening with whisky friends and argue about what the casks were.
