The bottling takes its name from an 1818 commission: Empress Maria Feodorovna ordered a cognac worthy of her son, Tsar Alexander I. The style is all precision — jasmine and orange blossom on the nose, candied citrus and honeyed fruit across a silky palate, and a long, airy finish with a whisper of smoke. Rare old eaux-de-vie carry the blend, and delicacy is the entire point. Serve it neat in a tulip glass at room temperature; ice would flatten exactly what this bottle exists for.
