Old Carter Straight Rye is a small-batch, cask-strength American rye, and Batch No. 7 ran to 1,495 bottles filled at full barrel strength. Fielding and Mark Carter built their name selecting mature, characterful barrels rather than chasing a fixed house style, and this rye carries their signature weight. Dark caramel and toasted oak lead, the middle turns to baking spice, black pepper, and dried cherry, and the finish runs long while holding its heat without turning hot. This is a pour to spend time with — neat in a heavy glass, or with a single large cube when the proof wants taming after a full day.
