The Dalmore King Alexander III is a Highland single malt Scotch matured in six different casks — ex-bourbon, Matusalem oloroso sherry, Madeira, Marsala, port and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques — then married into one rich pour. No other whisky in the distillery's principal range takes cask curation this far, and the result reads like a dessert cart: red berries and passion fruit on the nose; citrus zest, vanilla pod and crème caramel across the palate; cinnamon and ginger on the way out. Bottled at 40% ABV, it stays plush rather than hot. Pour it neat after dinner for someone who thinks they already know what sherry casks can do.
