About this bottle
Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey comes from Anchor Distilling in San Francisco, made from 100% malted rye and aged in new oak barrels that are toasted but not charred — a deliberate recreation of how American rye whiskey was likely made before the charred-barrel standard we associate with bourbon and modern rye became common. That means it's technically a single malt rye rather than a typical straight rye. Expect rye spice, toasted grain and light caramel on the nose, a bold, spicy palate with real intensity, and a long, warm, peppery finish. A historically-minded, distinctive whiskey outside the modern rye mainstream.
How to drink Old Potrero 18th Century Style
Sip it neat to appreciate the toasted-not-charred barrel character — it's different enough from standard rye to be worth tasting on its own first.
