About this bottle
Amrut Fusion is a single malt whisky from Amrut Distilleries in Bangalore, India, one of the releases that put Indian whisky on the map internationally when Jim Murray named it a top whisky in the mid-2000s. It's called "Fusion" because it blends Indian-grown barley with a portion of peated malted barley imported from Scotland, marrying the two before maturation rather than after. India's hot climate accelerates aging dramatically compared to Scotland, so a few years there can carry the oak influence of a much older Scotch. Expect tropical fruit and light peat smoke on the nose, a rich, spiced palate, and a long, oily finish.
How to drink Amrut Fusion
Neat, in a tulip glass, with maybe a drop of water — the tropical-aged intensity here rewards slow sipping over ice, which would mute what makes it distinctive.
