Mortlach Single Malt 30yr Midnight Malt 750ml

Mortlach 30 Year Old, known as Midnight Malt, is the oldest age statement in the Dufftown distillery's core range. Mortlach earned its nickname, the Beast of Dufftown, from a distillation regime nobody else runs: an asymmetric system of six stills that puts the spirit through the equivalent of 2.81 distillations, producing a heavy, meaty new make that needs decades to soften. Three of them show here. The nose is dried fig, dark chocolate and old leather. The palate is stewed dark fruit, walnut and treacle with that savoury Mortlach weight underneath, and the finish is very long. Pour it neat, in a small glass, and take your time.
