Hiram Walker Crème de Menthe is the green mint liqueur sitting behind a long list of classic drinks, from the Grasshopper to the Stinger to a properly made after-dinner Alexander. It is built on mint rather than menthol, which is the difference between a dessert drink and a mouthwash: cool peppermint on the nose, a palate of sweet spearmint and sugar with an almost physical chill to it, and a short finish that leaves the mouth cold. At a full litre it is sized for a working back bar rather than a display shelf. Shake it with cream and white cacao for a Grasshopper, or stir it with brandy over crushed ice.
