Byrrh Grand Quinquina is a French aperitif wine made from a base of wine fortified with brandy and flavored with quinine bark, a category known as quinquina, related to vermouth but built around bitter cinchona bark rather than a botanical bill centered on wormwood. Byrrh has been made in Thuir, in the south of France, since the 1860s. The nose carries dried fruit, bitter orange, and a mineral edge from the quinine, the palate is bittersweet with wine-driven depth, and the finish is long and slightly bitter. Good for sipping chilled on its own or building a Byrrh-based cocktail.
