About this bottle
Capensis is a South African Chardonnay project founded through a partnership between California's Jackson Family Wines and South African winemaking talent, built specifically to prove South Africa could produce world-class, Burgundian-style Chardonnay. The 2016 vintage is barrel-fermented and aged in French oak, giving it a rich, layered profile of citrus, stone fruit, and toasted hazelnut with a creamy texture balanced by real acidity. South Africa's cooler coastal vineyard sites, particularly around Walker Bay and Elgin, give Capensis's fruit the freshness that keeps the wine from tipping into heavy, over-oaked territory. This is a serious, collector-oriented Chardonnay for someone who already appreciates high-end Burgundy or top California Chardonnay.
How to drink Capensis Chardonnay 2016
Serve chilled but not ice-cold — around 50-55°F — in a proper white wine glass to let the toasted hazelnut and stone fruit show. It pairs well with roasted chicken, lobster, or other rich dishes that can meet its weight.
