About this bottle
Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon comes from high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, the Catena family's entry point into Argentine Cabernet. Altitude is the whole story here: vines planted well up the Andean benchland get intense sun through the day and cold nights after it, which holds acidity in the fruit and keeps a warm-climate grape from going flabby. The nose is blackcurrant and plum with a green herbal note behind it and a touch of vanilla oak. The palate is medium-full and firm, with dark berry, cocoa and a dusty tannin line, and the finish is dry with a peppery edge. Open it an hour ahead and pour it with steak, empanadas or anything off a grill.
