Ardbeg Ten Years Old is the Islay single malt that anchors the whole range, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46% with no chill filtration and no added color. That combination is why the texture stays thick and why the pour can haze the moment water goes in. The nose is soot, brine and lime peel; the palate runs through tar, smoked pear and espresso with peat threaded all the way down; the finish is long, ashy and faintly sweet. Few heavily peated malts still carry an age statement this plainly. Drink it neat, with a few drops of water to open it.
