About this bottle
O.F.C. is Buffalo Trace's vintage-dated bourbon programme, named for the Old Fire Copper distillery that E.H. Taylor Jr. built on this site in the 1870s. Each release is drawn from barrels laid down in a single named year — this one distilled in 2004 — and presented in an etched crystal decanter rather than a standard bottle. Barrels this old in Kentucky heat give up a great deal: the nose is dark caramel, dried cherry and antique oak; the palate runs toffee, leather, tobacco and baking spice inside a deep tannic frame; the finish is long, dry and spiced. Pour it neat, in small measures, and take your time with it.
