Firefly Apple Pie is a moonshine from Firefly Distillery in South Carolina, the outfit that made its name on sweet tea vodka and has been bottling Lowcountry flavours ever since. Moonshine here means unaged corn spirit — clear, soft and faintly sweet, with none of the oak that would make it whiskey — flavoured to taste like the filling of the pie rather than the crust. The nose is baked apple and cinnamon sugar; the palate is sweet, spiced apple with a warm alcohol lift running under it; the finish is short and dessert-like. Serve it chilled in a jar, or stir it into cider, hot or cold.
