Gran Malo Spicy Tamarindo is a tequila-based tamarind liqueur from Mexico, built on the same sweet-sour-chile combination that runs through Mexican candy and street snacks. Tamarind pulp brings the tartness, sugar rounds it out, and the chile heat sits underneath and builds across the pour rather than hitting all at once. The nose is sticky tamarind and dried chile; the palate is sweet and sour with a salty edge and a slow, warming burn; the finish is tangy and lingering. It is a shot bottle first and a mixer second. Serve it ice cold with a chile-salt rim, or pour it into a michelada or a spicy paloma.
