Hamilton Navy Strength is a Caribbean rum bottled at 114 proof, the historic strength at which spilled spirit will still let gunpowder catch. Ed Hamilton built the range for bartenders who wanted rum with enough weight to survive a shaken drink, and this is the bottle that does the heavy lifting: molasses and dried tropical fruit on the nose, burnt sugar, baked banana and a crack of black pepper on the palate, and a long hot finish that turns smoky-sweet as it fades. Drinkable neat if you like the proof, but it earns its place in a Mai Tai, a Navy Grog or a proper rum punch.
