A Midwinter Night's Dram is High West's blend of straight rye whiskeys finished in French oak port barrels, released once a year in numbered acts and scenes — this is Act 11, Scene 10. The port casks do the heavy lifting, turning the rye into something closer to a winter dessert without burying the spice that made it interesting. Dried cherry, cinnamon and plum on the nose; a palate of stewed fruit, dark chocolate, clove and rye pepper; a long finish of oak, cocoa and warm spice. It disappears from shelves every winter it appears. Drink it neat in a warm room, or over a single large cube.
