High West Finished in Midwinter Tawny Port 750ml

This High West bottling is finished in tawny port barrels, the same style of cask behind the distillery's winter release, so the port character arrives as dried fruit and sweetness layered over the whiskey rather than replacing it. Tawny port is oxidative and nutty by nature, and that carries straight across into the spirit: raisin, fig and toasted walnut on the nose, a palate of stewed dark fruit, caramel, cocoa and warm baking spice, and a long finish where oak and sweetness settle together. It drinks like cold weather. Pour it neat after dinner, or over one large cube alongside something chocolate.
