Hunter & Mazzetti Vineyards Tempranillo comes from the 2021 vintage at 13.7% alcohol. Tempranillo is the backbone grape of Rioja and Ribera del Duero, and it usually lands in the middle of the red spectrum: red fruit rather than black, with leather and dried herb wrapped around it. Expect cherry and plum on the nose, a palate of red berry, tobacco leaf and a little vanilla from oak, and a dry finish with moderate tannin. It is an easier midweek pour than a big Cabernet. Serve it at cool room temperature with roast chicken, chorizo, paella or hard sheep's cheese.
