In the United States, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) regulates the production and sale of distilled spirits. In order to be labeled as "Bonded," a whiskey must meet certain requirements, including being aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse and bottled at 100 proof or higher. The TTB also requires that the whiskey be produced in a single distillery and that the distiller's name and address appear on the label. In addition, the whiskey must be bottled in the state in which it was produced.
