About this bottle
Kvareli is a dry red appellation on the northern edge of Kakheti, where the Caucasus foothills shelter the vineyards, and like most serious Kakhetian reds it is made from Saperavi. The grape is a teinturier — red-fleshed as well as red-skinned — which is why these wines pour so dark and hold their structure. The nose is black cherry, plum and dried herbs with a suggestion of oak, the palate is dark fruit and cocoa over firm tannin and bright acidity, and the finish is long, dry and savoury. Give it air, then serve it with grilled lamb, walnut-thickened stews or aged sheep's cheese.
