Sandeman Madiera Fine Rich 750ml

Sandeman Madeira Fine Rich is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of Madeira, made in the sweeter Rich style. Madeira is gently heated during maturation, a practice that began by accident on long sea voyages through the tropics and is now done deliberately, and that cooking is what gives the wine its baked, caramelised character and its famous resistance to spoiling once opened. The nose is walnut, dried fig and burnt sugar. The palate is sweet but cut with bright acidity: caramel, orange peel, raisin and toffee. The finish is long and tangy. Serve it lightly chilled with blue cheese or a chocolate dessert, and keep the open bottle without worrying about it.
