About this bottle
Sandeman Vintage 2016 is a Vintage Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal, fortified with grape spirit partway through fermentation to lock in sweetness and push the alcohol to 20% ABV, sourced from the house's Quinta do Seixo and Quinta do Vau estates. Expect a deep, inky color, aromas of ripe dark fruit, violets and baking spice, and a rich, velvety palate of blackberry, plum and cocoa balanced by firm tannins built to soften with cellaring. Vintage Port is only declared in strong harvest years, which is part of why this bottling carries a higher price than Sandeman's standard tawny or ruby releases.
How to drink Sandeman Vintage 2016
Serve slightly below room temperature, around 60°F, and decant it to separate out natural sediment. It pairs well with aged hard cheeses, dark chocolate, or on its own after dinner.

Questions about this bottle
Does Vintage Port need to be decanted?
Yes — it typically throws sediment as it ages, so decanting separates the clear wine from the sediment and also lets it breathe before serving.
What makes a 'Vintage' Port different from a regular Port?
Vintage Port is only declared in exceptional harvest years and comes from a single vintage rather than a blend of years, which is why it's priced and cellared more like fine wine than everyday Port.
What food pairs with Vintage Port?
Aged hard cheeses like Stilton, dark chocolate, and dried fruit and nuts are classic pairings — it's rich enough to work as a dessert on its own.
