About this bottle
Smith Woodhouse 10 Year Old is a tawny port from a Douro Valley house founded in 1784 and now part of the Symington family stable. Tawny takes its name and its colour from time in wood: years in seasoned oak casks let the wine oxidise gently, fading the purple out of it and drawing nutty, caramelised flavours in. The nose is walnut, dried fig and butterscotch; the palate is sweet but balanced, with raisin, orange peel, toffee and a clean spirit warmth running through; the finish is long and nutty. Serve it lightly chilled in a small glass with almonds, hard cheese, or anything involving caramel.
