Trump New World Reserve Red wine 2016 750 ML

New World Reserve 2016 is the flagship red from Trump Winery in Virginia's Monticello AVA, a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties grown on the estate outside Charlottesville and aged in oak before release. Virginia reds tend to sit somewhere between Bordeaux and California in weight, and this is a fair example of that middle ground: ripe fruit, but with structure and a savoury streak rather than pure sweetness. The nose is blackcurrant, plum and cedar, the palate carries dark cherry, tobacco leaf and cocoa over firm but polished tannins, and the finish is dry and herbal. Decant it for half an hour and pour it with ribeye or lamb.
