Umano Rkatsiteli Qvevri Amber Dry Wine 750ml

This is amber wine made the way Georgia has made it for thousands of years: Rkatsiteli, the country's workhorse white grape, fermented on its skins in a qvevri, the beeswax-lined clay vessel buried to the neck in the ground. Skin contact is what turns a white grape orange and gives the wine tannin, so it drinks more like a light red than a crisp white. The nose is dried apricot, walnut skin and black tea. The palate is dry and grippy, with quince, orange peel and a savory, almost salty edge, finishing long and tannic. Serve it cool, not cold, with roast chicken or aged cheese.
