Umano Saperavi 2021 Vintage 12.5% Alc/Vol 750ml

Saperavi is Georgia's flagship red grape and the backbone of most of the country's serious bottlings. This 2021 is made in the dry style at 12.5 percent alcohol, which keeps it lighter on its feet than the ripeness of the fruit might suggest. Saperavi is a teinturier variety, with red pulp as well as red skin, so the color runs opaque violet-black. Expect black cherry, damson and a little dried herb on the nose, a dry palate of blackcurrant, plum and pepper riding firm acidity, and a finish that turns earthy. Serve it at cool room temperature with grilled meat, mushroom dishes, or walnut-sauced Georgian classics.
