Old Forester's rye recipe is unusually malt-heavy at 65 percent rye, 20 percent malted barley and 15 percent corn, and that malt gives the whiskey a rounder, chewier body than most ryes carry. The nose is mint, clove and dark toffee. The palate arrives thick with black pepper, cocoa, dried herb and oak, and the finish is long and dry.
