About this bottle
Midleton Dair Ghaelach Kilranelagh Wood Tree No. 1 is the first release in Midleton’s Kilranelagh Wood series, part of the long-running Dair Ghaelach line that finishes single pot still Irish whiskey in virgin Irish oak rather than the usual American or European casks. This tree’s wood came from Kilranelagh Estate in County Wicklow, and the whiskey behind it is Midleton’s single pot still spirit, further matured roughly two years in that virgin oak before bottling at cask strength — 57% ABV (114 proof). Expect forest-floor and pine notes over honeyed pot still spice, with tropical fruit and oak building through the palate. Good for pot still drinkers chasing a specific, single-forest expression rather than a standard-strength bottling.
How to drink Midleton Dair Ghaelach Kilranelagh Wood Tree No. 1
Take it neat, and add a few drops of water to open up the virgin-oak spice — this is bottled at cask strength and shows better with a little dilution. Save the ice for something else.
