About this bottle

Don Julio 1942 is an añejo tequila made to commemorate the year Don Julio González began distilling in the Jalisco Highlands. Produced from 100% Blue Weber agave and aged a minimum of two and a half years in American white oak, this is the bottle that helped make sipping tequila a category of its own. The profile runs warm and dessert-leaning: roasted agave and caramel on the nose, vanilla and cooked agave through the palate, and a long finish of oak and lingering sweetness. The tall, slender bottle shows up at celebrations for a reason. Bottled at 80 proof. Serve Don Julio 1942 neat or over a single large cube — mixing it is legal, but nobody does.

How to drink Don Julio 1942

Serve it in a tulip glass rather than a shot glass, and treat the pour like a fine spirit — the caramel and roasted agave have more to give than a quick shot allows. If you're stretching it into a cocktail for a celebration, a splash of orange bitters over one large cube is about as far as this one should go toward being mixed.
