About this bottle
Three times named World's Best Blended Malt by Whisky Magazine, Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 21 Year is a Japanese whisky that is no longer made. The blend carries the name of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder who brought Scottish distilling home to Japan, and marries malts from the company's two distilleries — Yoichi's rich, coastal spirit and Miyagikyo's softer, fruitier make — each aged at least 21 years in ex-bourbon and sherry casks. At 43% ABV the whisky shows tropical fruit, roasted nuts, and mocha over a sweet malt core, with citrus and cinnamon riding a long finish. The distillery discontinued the age-stated Taketsuru line in March 2020, so remaining bottles are finite. Open this one for milestone nights, or shelve it and watch it appreciate.
