About this bottle
This is the 2018 vintage of Opus One in magnum — a 1.5-liter bottling of the Napa Valley red blend created by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. A long, mild growing season shows in the glass: blackberry, cassis, and black cherry lifted by violets, white pepper, and rose petal. The blend runs 84% Cabernet Sauvignon rounded out with Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, then spends 17 months in new French oak. The palate is juicy black fruit edged with orange zest, licorice, and dark chocolate, over round tannins and a soft, creamy feel. Cellar the magnum a decade for a milestone, or decant it an hour and open the evening with it.
